i was at a lfs and i overheard someone talking about feeding baby clowns egg yolks , this a common practice ?

Being as they won't generally take dead foods at all, I'm not sure how exatly you would convince them to eat it. It might be good for them if you could, but then I'm guessing bird fry have different nutritional requirements....yep, I just said bird fry! :D

Well Jason, he is not that far...

It has been proven that egg yolk can be used to feed Discus(cichlid) fry, and the nutritional requirements were met. Still the way of feeding is different with clown larvae.

Interesting Ed. I could see that working on cichlids, they'll eat anything. :D I have a batch of A. Clarkii set to hatch in a night or two, maybe I'll pull a few out and try it.

I had a discus hatchery in the past, and I did use the egg yolk feed a few times. It fouls the water very fast and I feel that it takes to much effort to be successful with it. In my opinion, after a number of spawn of the discus not taking care of the fry, get rid of them for a pair that does. Time is money. Rotifers are easy and clowns breed regular once they start to breed. I would just use rotifers. Even if they will eat it, it's going to foul the water quick.

Not only discus...Hard boiled (13 min.)egg yolk strained thru a cloth, has been the standard first food for many FW fry too small for bs.That was the first thing I tried with damsels, but didnÃ"šÃ‚´t work:(
Now I donÃ"šÃ‚´t think I ever tried it with clowns...
