Feeding fish bananas?

I'm stating to see all these threads and posts about people feeding their fish Bananas, is it good for the fish? Is there any benefit to feeding them Bananas?

The fish flourish in the wild without bananas. No reason they need them in the aquarium.

I think it would be better to feed a wide variety of natural food, found in the ocean, to our fish. Not land based food. JMO

Yeah, well"¦.people do all sorts of things and have a perfectly logical explanation for it. Myself, I think bananas go well with vodka, vitamin c and a dash of sugar.

I've been feeding my fish bananas for a long time now. A bit of potassium wont hurt. Matter of fact it might be actually good for them. But like what others say its not natural for them too eat it but my fish love it. (I always mix it in either with scallops or mysis shrimp.)

I have only heard of this in freshwater tanks. Specifically discus.

I dont take this "Bananas dont grow in the ocean" argument. In the wild the fish eat lots of different stuff to fulfill their nutrational needs. In captivity we feed different types of land based food which have different types of minerals and vitamins as substitute. As I understand bananas are rich in potassium.

The aquatic research facility here feeds their pacus bananas, which I thought was cool enough, but I don't know about reef fishes!

True, true... Fish in the ocean eat way more nutritious foods than we hobbyists offer them in captivity.

Potassium is good for humans. Im sure its good for fish too.

Vitamin C, useful in marine aquaria? check
Sugar, useful in marine aquaria? check

Looks like bananas are in with some other useful foods!
