so is good to feed garlic when feeding.. i heard that it helps with diseases like ich and helps also with immune system,, is this true.. if so how would you do it???

I sprinkle freeze dried garlic, just a pinch, into the tank when the fish are hungriest. They all eat some of it.

Garlic is suppsoed to be good for the immune system although it has no deff affects against ich.

Garlic DOES NOT improve the fish's immune system. Best to get your facts:
http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-10/sp/index.php

It's been studied enough to know:
1) It doesn't always improve appetite;
2) It has a weak antimicrobial affect;
3) It doesn't stop obligate parasites (like Marine Ich); and
4) It can be overdosed to cause harm to the fish.

I make my own fish foods and I don't use it. I do use it now and then in quarantine when a fish is reluctant to eat. I have not seen any fish of mine suddenly start eating because I put garlic on/in the food. I truly wish it always had this affect. Still, I keep trying.

Lee is right

Lee is right

Lee is right , garlic is not a proven method of treatment for anything in mariculture. All reports are anecdotal and not substantiated. I am in correpondence with a parisitologist who has done a formal study on the effects of Lemon Juice and Garlic. Heat oven to 375F, oh sorry I got off on the wrong track there.... However, some of the reports sound as though there may be something to the Garlic thing. The jury is out on this one.... If you would like to add garlic to the diet try formula two with 2% garlic. The fish love it.

I have a powder blue tang with just a touch of ICH. It has been with him now for over a month. I am going back and forth on the "natural immunity cure" but it does not seem to be getting better or worse and no others have it. I did however without researching add garlic to their food. I soon afterwards lost 2 Bartlett Anthias that I had for over 2 years, I suspect from directly eating the garlic chunk. I find it hard to believe the loss was not garlic related. I have been soaking food now in garlic (mess bag) for the past couple of weeks and have seen no improvement in the powder blue, nor any reason to believe garlic is of any advantage - just an observation.

I am actually considering KICH ICH or ICH KICK - whatever it is called. I heard from a shop owner of good results on a Hippo tang in his display reef tank.

Garlic woes

Garlic woes

If I were you I would follow the quarantine procdures outlined by Steven Pro, Calfo and Fenner as well as many others. Sorry for your woes... I wish you luck.

well i did after reading all the things about garlic feeding and if it works with ich and all the other things,, i went out and bought formula two new dry food with garlic in it,, i figured instead of getting garlic and doing it myself i just buy that and see if it works... my coral beauty had ich growing on him.. which i thought was ich.. i dont know if it really help but after about 5 days the little white specs were gone... so if it worked or not i will switch back and forth with dry and frozen food.. good luck out there
