feeding hermits

can i feed scarlet hermit crabs spiralina algae wafers?
im afraid they are going to starve to death because i dont have any algae left on the live rock (tank is only 9 days old, zero amonia)
i leave the lights on for 12 hours a day and still no algae
do you think these algae wafers are ok and will they eat them?
it says fresh and marine on the container
i have fw fish too so i have tons of foods but im not sure what is best to add to a sw tank.
i have shrimp pellets but they get way too messy, the algae wafers stay clean

They will eat them. Honestly, I would just throw small pieces of them in and remove what isn't eaten after an hour or so. The wafers are slow to break down, so you shouldn't have much difficulty removing them. This will at least give them something to eat until algae start growing--just give it time. I guarantee that you will not be concerned later, especially when you add fish.

They will eat flake food if you have any available.

i have reg tetramin flakes and i have brine shrimp flakes, but with the high currents i just picture flakes flying everywhere lol
but maybe a few flakes will speed up the algae process
im still not sure about fish....im debating just doing a coral and invert only cuz i have a feeling fish will just ruin things and make the tank a mess.
has anyone ever done a coral and invert only tank with no fish?

I feed my fish flake food and i have lots of current. I figure that if the fish are too fat to catch the food then they dont need it LOL

Besides any that hits the sand will get eaten by everythign else.

i have no luck i swear
i put in half an algae wafer, it zipped thru the tank before it landed under a rock..i tried to get it out and it just went further under the rock, i cant get it, now not only will the hermits miss their meal but it probably will rot the tank too

I take my flakes and break them into a mass of peices and chuck it in. The fish go nuts! and if a small peice his any of my mushrooms or polyps they eat it!

but i dont have fish or mushrooms i just have 2 hermit crabs
will aphipods eat the wafer thats under the rock?

The Hermits will find it, they have an extraordinary sense of smell. If not, the pods will.
