Feeding...How Often?

My tank has been set-up for about 4 months now....I have two clowns, one Royal Gramma, one Fire Goby and one Spotted (sand sifting) Goby and two peppermint shrimp. I recently started to experience a nasty hair algae break-out and wonder if I am over-feeding. I feed once in the moring and once in the late afternoon, pellet food only. I feed only until they stop eating. All parameters are within acceptable range. I have approx 20x turnover between, filter, chiller pump, and powerheads.

I do feed my yellow gorgonian, Kent Zoo Plex, 2 or 3 times a week.

my .02:

The outbreak may be due to overfeeding. Have you tested for nitrates and phosphates?

Have you considered feeding a better food, like a frozen? Mysis, Formula 1, etc.

The general rule is to feed what they can eat in 2 minutes. If you are feeding more than that, you are overfeeding.

I feed several cubes of frozen food every evening. After lights out, I put in just a couple of tiny pinches of Formula 1 or 2 pellets for all the night critters. Once in a while, I'll throw in a little bit of flake or Zooplankton in the morning, but not often.

Been doing it this way for over 2 years.

Dosen't sound like your overfeeding. As Crystal suggested most likely cause is elevated levels of nitates and or phosphates. How often do you do water changes?

Every Saturday.....10%....I did a 20% this weekend. Nitrates read 0 on my test kit. PO4 reads .5
