Feeding my clowns

Hello! I recently got two juvenile clownfish, one misbar and one black. The two get along great and are doing well. I noticed however that when I try to feed them pellet food, they spit it out. I know they will probably like mysis shrimp, but the problem is I also have a snowflake eel and I would rather the clowns not eat anything my eel would be interested in to prevent problems. What should I try?

Also, I'm thinking of putting some sort of live seaweed in the tank because I don't really like the fake decorations and I figured the clowns might nibble on it. Any thoughts on this, and if it's a good idea what species?

Thanks!!!

What size are the pellets? Most are 1mm and this would be too big for small clowns. You need to find .5 mm pellets or crush up the ones you have. I believe they're spitting them out because they're too big for them to eat. Clowns probably won't eat any decent vegetation that you would want in your tank. They will also love to eat frozen Mysis, and any one of the frozen mixes.

Thanks! I'm definitely going to look for the smaller pellets. I'm probably going to add something like agardheilla red, and if they do or don't nibble on it then it will still be good for filtration and such. :)

Reed Mariculture has their APBreed line of food that is geared toward feeding baby fish. They make various sizes to feed anything from newly hatched fry on up:

Since they contain astaxanthin the food will also enhance the colors of your fish.

Any LFS that carries Reef Nutrition products can order it for you. Or you can order direct from Reed.
