Feeding NPS idea

SO I came here to learn more about NPS systems, BUT I have to ask...

Is that an orangespotted filefish in with your seahorses and how is that working out for you? I love the look of that fish and never even considered he would be a good tankmate with the seahorses. I would love to hear more about your experience mixing these two species. Do you feed the filefish coral or have you been able to ween hm off of them?

Also amazing tanks you really have worked hard for your results.

Thank you!!! Yes !! There is a mated pair of orange spot filefish that I got from DFS 3 years ago. They were a little finicky at first but now they are complete PIGs and eat everything, frozen mysis, frozen brine shrimp, nutromar, etc...as well as all the rotifers that come flying off the softies when I feed them. They dont even pay attention to the seahorses.
But in my opinion, even more interesting is the Tank raised Pinatus Batfish that has been in there for 4 years. My favorite fish in the world.

WOW!! yes I really like the batfish as well I did not even see him in the picture I copy pasted. But I do see him now, just a glimpse in the lower left. That might be one of those things that will not work for everybody lol. Plus my seahorse tank is only a 92 cube no where near enough room for that guy to swim around.

4 years wow. are they just really slow growers? I thought those fish got well over 1'. He is absolutely stunning in any case.

Your massive feedings probably play a role in your success with the all of these unlikely pairings. But you have shown it can be done, if someone is diligent enough. Once everything is established I am going to try the filefish. I know the kids will love it.

Thank you for sharing.

A little less then 4 years, but not much. He was tank raised and only 2 inches tall when I got him. Sustainable Aquatics was marketing them for a short while, but do not anymore.

I am actually considering that same thing. Everything must fit inside my stand (spouse restrictions), so I'm trying to figure that out. You are right though, putting the feeder inside a wine cooler or mini fridge would reduce the daily attention I would need to do.

My rofiter feeder needs to be at room temp though, but the phyto needs to be cool. I'm considering a small wine coller to keep the phyto cool to dose into my rotifer culture.

You'll want to try several types of the cheap $20 coolers, and choose the one that suits you for fan quietness, clicking, temp, and freezing. Then when you choose one, buy two more of them for backup.
