Feeding question for Blue Carpet

I hav a blue carpet anemone which was purchased at a LFS. They said just use filter feeding food like zoo plex and micro vert and I will be fine. After reading a few posting it sounds like i should be feeding it krill or shrimp. I have tried feeing it krill and every time I put a peice in its mouth either one of my tangs or triggers takes it out. I have never seen it eat. Should i still try to feed it or is filter food enought? It laso gets some pellets of formula one and two. But again i never see it eat it just lands on it and it and usually the purple tang will pick the pellets off.

place the food on the tentacles and it'll stick (they should be sticky) and it'll fold and insert it into it's mouth its own self. they also IME prefer fish, silversides work great.

the silversides you get frozen in the LFS or order them online, they run about 8 bucks for a 1 lb flat pack, that should last you a good while.

i tried shrimp tonight and the fish that is hosting in it keeps on moving the shrimp off the carpet... I doubt I can catch the fish. I kept on flashing a flashlight on it so it would stop attempting to move the shrimp however after 30 mins the carpet did nothing, I did see its tenicals moving thought around the shrimp

it should be sticky if healthy and the food will stick to the tentacles and the clown won't be able to take it off, if you get your hand on it, it's also very difficult to get unstuck. doesn't sound like yours is to sticky/healthy :(

at 24" of water depth I'd question using 250w MH with a carpet. i kept my green Hadoni in my 29g under a 250w for several months and he did OK, but not great, moved it to the 180 under 400w MH and it perked up, both tanks shared a sump so lighting was the only major change.

Ive had my carpet under a 150w HQI at 24" for almost 2 years now. The thing is huge, around 16" in diameter. How long have you had it? Is the mouth tight? If its not sticky something is wrong. The fact that your other fish, minus the clown, are taking the food from and not getting eaten has me confused. If a fish slightly touches my haddoni they are consumed. The largest fish was a 5" Blue Throat Trigger. I only feed mine twice a week.

how do you know he perked up... what did he do differently?

expanded the cap larger.

I have had mine for 5 to 6 weeks now. I have seen it close up and I think it was eating 3 times (but i am not sure it would just shrink into a small fist size ball). The mouth is oval shaped and i would guess it is tight. When i first got it it looked oped a bit more. The purple tang is the main fish who eats pellets out of it when they are dropped, and he has been known to swim in the anemone.

under the 250 the cap was approximately 8" when expanded, under the 400s close to 12"

in the pic of yours, it's mouth is gapping, not a good sign :(
