Feeding Question

I'm really confused about feeding. I read where some people feed a few times a day, to once a day, or every other day. Which is best? I'm super worried about hair algae so i don't want to overfeed but i don't want to underfeed also. I've been feeding every other day alternating between pellets and mysis.

Also when you feed is it best to turn off all powerhead and pumps, etc?

I think a lot of that depends on what livestock you have. If you provide a list of that and of your setup I think it would be easier to help.

Definitely depends on your livestock requirements, but even then you will get some differences in opinions.

I have 2 banggai cardinals, 2 clowns and 2 SW mollies, I feed them mysis and grated shrimp/squid 1-2x max per week. Many people will say this is under feeding them, but my clowns are going on 11 and 6 years old, they seem perfectly happy with their feeding schedule.

I should also add they are in a 72g softy reef with 120lb of live rock, so they are constantly foraging around.

If you had anthias in your tank for example they would need to be fed a minimum of 2x-3x a day. They have super high metabolism and need frequent feedings on the smaller side. I feed my tank 3x a day, but I also carbon dose with a VV mixture and add MB7 to keep NO3 and PO4 in check.

i like to keep my fish well fed so i skim heavy & dose carbon. i feed twice a day. i wonder how many of those that skip days or wait a week also use the same concept on what they eat themselves :) i feel as long as you are not over feeding more then fish can consume in a few minutes, why not let them enjoy daily feedings

i feel bad not feeding my fish at least twice a day. in the ocean, i'm sure they are not skipping days without eating.

i have two large regal tangs, large yellow tang, melanarus wrasse, dragon goby,lm blenny, two saddleback clowns, purple lta,3 blue grenn chromis, two cleaner shrimp,a peppermint shrimp one larger common hermit and some small hermits and snails.

i feed mysis and a home mix of scallops, clams, squid, shrimp etc heavily every second day, lightly feed nls pellets every other day and nori wrapped and hung on pvc pipe everyday ...the odd time i taget feed the large hermit a silverside and the nem fends for himself or the female spits food into it
