Feeding sebae anemone

I have gotten silversides that are ~2" long and only as thick as big spaghetti.

still bigger than krill. Also, lots of people refer to different sizes of shrimp as "cocktail" shrimp....

When you talk about silversides, different people picture different things, and they are both right. :)

Always the diplomat! :)

Totally depends on your luck I guess. Almost all of the silversides from San Fran Bay that was getting were smaller than the size of guppies. Hardly a meal for an anemone unless you fed it 8 or 9.

Still though, I preffer Krill over silversides. I have yet to see any anemone refuse krill. Scallops, Clam and live feed goldfish are a good variety.

By far, the best silversides (besides fresh ones :D ) are the ProSalt brand (with Fish King a close second). What impressed me with pro salt is that they were larger and their slime coating was still intact, unlike most other brands IME. I have never seen as quick a response with any other brand, so if you can get them, all the better. You are more than welcome to feed other types of foods, etc., but IME, a good whole fish meat like silversides is all that is necessary for optimum health.

about 2 years ago I bought a 2 inch sebae that was bleached (yellow) and I had it on the bottom of my 29gal. I have a 1.5 - 2inch sand bed. It's foot was secured to the bottom glass. I fed it about a .5 inch piece of silverside (prosalt) every other day. it grew to about 8 inches in a little over 18 months and I increased the size of the silverside accordingly. Under 130W of pc it browned up nicely in about 6 months. It only moved once from one end of the tank to the other to where it found a suitable current. It housed a pair of perculas also. I ended up giving it to a friend with a 220 gal w/ MH lighting. Last time I saw it it was huge. anyway the moral of my rant is that I credit alot of my success with the heavier feeding of the quality Prosalt silversides. Prior to that I fed mysid and brine but it didn't respond as well. It was when I switched to the silversides that the growth took off and the zooanthelae started growing.

I don't want to discount the quality of silversides as an anemone food, but before silversides were readily available (10 years ago) I had similar success with pieces of raw shrimp.

 Really? Silversides were just about the only thing (short of fresh shrimp and other seafood) available for fish food around here ten years ago. I couldn't trust the local seafood due to mercury (used it at first, though), so silversides were my only alternative. They are the only food I have found that are sufficient to encourage frequent spawning behavior in H. crispa.

My Sebae is doing well

My Sebae is doing well

My anemone is doing well, I picked up some frozen krill. Anemone eats it right up! I plan on getting some silversides real soon, and some other meaty foods.

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions!!!!!
