Feeding shrooms...

hey guys whats up...I just finished cycling my tank and I put some blue/green striped mushrooms in. One rock, which has about 5 or 6 of them on it is on the SB, the other which only has 2 growing on it is about midway up. I have a 10Gal with 96watt coralife light fixture so im not sure if i should keep it midway. also, what should i feed it? my LFS said they wouldnt eat cyclop-eeze, which is what i have because i read somewhere that it would feed anything. i also have a brain, zoo's, gold stay polyps, and pink polyps(hitch hikers, but have grown ALOT). so ya...im also fairly new to the hobby, but i've read plenty and still reading more.

I feed with Reef-roids and cyclop-eeze. I've got good result with both.

Just keep an eyes to your water params...if you have only few corals or not a good protein skimmer, stay relax on corals feeding if you don't want your nitrate get too high...

ok great...thanks for the advice...also, its a 10gal so no skimmer but i do weekly water changes.

Humm...in that case, I think it's preferable for you not to feed... Anyway, mushrooms are photosynthetics...they will get all they need with lightning...

now im confused...they told me it would not be a problem to feed...also, i have other corals(brain, zoo's, and polyps) which i was told also need feeding...anyhow, should i look into a skimmer then? if so, which one would you suggest for a 10gal? thanks a bunch

None of your corals NEED feeding (maybe the brain) but they will grow faster and look better IME.

I have a 10 gallon nano reef with more corals then you. I feed 3 times a week. NO SKIMMER. I do a 25% pwc once a week. IMO and IME 25% pwc weekly for tanks below 20 gallons is all you need. Skimmer would be overkill IMO. Besides spending the money you would use on a skimmer towards a RO/DI unit is a better choice IMO. (for nano tanks)

I agree with Lance...I have a couple of nano cubes (12 gallons) on the kitchen counter and only do a 15-20% water change per week - no room for a skimmer with these things. However, mine are not truly reef tanks - I have had RBTAs growing and cloning in one of them for the last three years. Other than supplementing iodine once a week (depending on the test readings) in the mushroom tank, the water changes and feeding the clownfish is about all the care I have to worry about (oh, and rinsing the filters every 8 weeks, cleaning the glass, etc.). Good luck!
