Feeding Stations

Hey guys,

I was hoping some of you can give me some ideas for setting up a feeding station. I have a 30 gallon Oceanic and just received four H. reidi. They seem to all be eating fairly well but I really want to get them trained to go to a station. How far down in the tank do you guys position yours. My tank is tall so give me some ideas on how you get the frozen mysis to the station without it going everywhere.

Thanks in advance!

Very easy to train. :-) First find a place where there is little or no current in the tank. A place you can watch them eat. I placed mine right in the middle of the tank and use a clam shell found at petshop. Then with a turkey baster add some extra hard/straite tubing, I think 1/4" (will make life easy) Then shave off the end of the TB and add the tub to the length you want. At lfs I think they are 3' in lenths. (cut for your tank depth) Use a cup to thaw out the shrimp (with saltwater so shrimp will sink) Then suck with modified/extended TB and the horses will follow the food to their now feeding station. You can see my station in gallery. :-) Good luck.

Your welcome! Let me know how it works for you or if you find something easier. You might need a little silicone to keep air from getting in at connection area.
I did see some extenced target feeders but cost about 20 bucks. My way was about 5 bucks. Good Luck!

sorry off topic, redhorse how long did it take for your mandarin to start eating frozen. any tips to teach it?
thanks

I actually started with brine shrimp in the feeding station, he seems to like them the best. Now I mix, 1 cube of enriched Brine shrimp, 4 cubes of mysis and one cube of Ocean Plankton. (looks like orange krill). This is per day. I have 4 horses, 1 mandarin goby, 3 small pajama cardnals, 1 skunk cleaner shrimp, 1 pepperment shrimp 1 yellow watchman goby and 1 Blue Boxing Shrimp. (looks like a coral banded shrimp but only gets 1" in body length and has a blue upper body, not red or white. :-)
