Feeding Sun Coral

Looking for a good tip...

Bought a sun coral on the weekend and I cant get to open. I know they require a lot of feeding, and Im okay with that but I cant feed it if it wont open.
I have it in a darker place in the tank with mid range flow, and tried to entice it with lights/pumps on and off with phytoplankton, mysis, brine, reef roids, and plankton - all with no luck of getting it open. Also tried a suggested margerine container with tank water on the side by itself.

Any tips on getting the polyps to open???

Leave it alone. It may take a week or 2 to get comfortable. Feed the tank the last meal of the day, and when you see the tentacles open, feed it.

Yeah like swingrrrr said. I used to have one and took a week b4 it opened. It was a pita to target feed so I returned it.

What worked for me was ,cut a 2 liter soda bottle in half then youcan glue a piece of 1/2" pvc pipe into the neck where the cap went pointing up. measure from the sandbed to the water level , then make sure the pipe +1/2 soda bottle are 1" taller ,put the open end of the bottle over the coral and squirt mysis down the pipe . Make sure you don'ttouch the coral with the bottle while placing over it .,leave it in place for about a half hour, od this each day at the same time and in a short time it will be waiting for you to feed it . This meathod also keeps the other creatures from stealing it's food,and you don't need to get your hands wet either.

thanks lee,

went to the local pet store and got a piece of 3/16 tubing for air lines in fresh water tanks, also a 15cc syringe for dog medicine feeding and the two fit together like a glove. Now i have a decent size syringe i use for target feeding and with a 24'' extension.

Will continue the regiment for a while and post the results...

Any more advice???

Try Cyclopeeze. My sun coral loves it.

What is cyclopeeze? Where would I get it? Is it fresh, frozen, dry? Heard the name a lot but have no idea what it is.

I second cyclopeeze. It is a zooplankton that comes in frozen bars or in freeze dried containers, but go with frozen if given a choice.

Mine also love mysis shrimp, pellets, flakes, and whatever else lands on them. They aren't very picky

i also feed mine with cyclopeeze. you need to let it get used to your new tank though first.
