Feeding the Mosquitoes (56k warning)

Today, I went to the forest across the road to feed the mosquitoes, they didn't mind the DEET I drecnhed myself with and proceeded to eat me alive! Then I was chased by a bulldog ant (Myamecia sp.) that threatened to bite a few fingers off.

Some background:
Location: Cumberland State Forest
Camera: Canon 10D, 180 macro, 580ex flash, EF25 extension tube, tripod etc.

So, 2 hours later and 20+ mossie bites later here's what I have come up with:

#1: This is what was stalking me, they are totally fearless

Oh man...those are AMAZING!!! Creepy...but AMAZING!!! I like #4 the best...a small sprig pushing its way into the big world is the feeling I got. Just spectacular.

Awesome! #2, #4 and #13 are my favorites!

But where are the pics of the mosquitoes?

I guess he had to squash them while they were biting him. :D

Amazing shots, Louis.

Thanks everyone for your most generous compliments, I really appreciate it! I hope my photos brings awareness to the beauty around us such that people treasure it more :)

110% correct :D Well, they were getting too bold, one tried to enter my mouth!

Wonderful shots! That ant brings back some memories, I grew up in QLD and those green or bull ants were a real pain at times...

I wish I was into photography while I lived there, so many sights you don't see anywhere else!

those were too close for my taste...I felt like throwing up the closer they got! lol nice pictures though! :D Definitely got the gag factor going on! :D Erin

Thanks Giancarlo! I would love to visit the Dantree Rainforest up north, I heard it's quite the sight!!

Aural, thanks for your compliment! You are too kind! All of these except the first one, are taken using tripod. I was too scared of the ant to shoot him with a tripod!

I use a tripod at every opportunity I can, improvement in consistancy aside, it is just easier on your arms!

That is a sight! Also, just inland from the Gold Coast is the Natural Arch Bridge, a small site but has a large glow-worm cave with a waterfall coming down through a hole in the roof and continues down through a hole in the floor... never had the guts to jump but many there do take the plunge. At night the glow-worms and glow mushrooms are spectacular, would be a great site to play with long exposures.

Regards

I was thinking "who the heck feeds mosquitos" and then "and why photograph it?"

Those are superb shots, definitely worth viewing. Hopefully more people see your thread.
