Feeding tiny anthias

I got a deal on this trio I could not pass up. These guys are tiny as you can see in the pics of them compared to the brine shrimp swimming around in the picture.

They do not seem interested in the live brine. What would you try to feed them? Baby Brine Shrimp?

Thanks. I have cyclopeeze. I'm going to give that a try while I try to hatch some brine shrimp.

Unfortunately two out of the three are escape artist and got out of my acclimation box. I'll have to figure out a way to target feed them.

I bought a few of these from the Coral Sea last August.

TBH I was concerned when I realised the collector had included two juveniles which were maybe 2cm in total length.

IME newly hatched baby brine in sufficient numbers did the trick. Later I used ocean nutrition red plankton, fish roe, finely chopped / squashed frozen brine, mysis and similar frozen food.

Each to his own but i found it easier feed them almost continuously in quarantine for a couple of months. I suspect casualties may be higher if they go straight into the DT at this size.

HTH and good luck!

anthias..........

anthias..........

those look like ventralias anthias...?...very nice....were did you get these?...

Wow...they're gorgeous. I'm waiting for my lfs to find me a trio too. Don't forget to try soaking the food in garlic before feeding and as others suggested, Nutramar Ova or try making your own blended mix.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I took the advice of a local club member and tried baby brine shrimp. That seemed to be the ticket. I've also started introducing tigger pods to the mix. And those get eaten with just as much gusto.

So far it does not seem interested in any kind of frozen or prepared foods. I've posted a video of it eating BB.

Nivram what is the name of those anthias? They look amazing!

Ventralis Anthias

Unfortunately I can only account for one now. The other two escaped into the main tank and I have not seen them since day two.

This guy has begun to take frozen cyclopeeze. I hope to be able to grow him/her out to a bigger size before releasing into the tank.
