Feeding YWG and Pistol Shrimp

My YWG and Tiger Pistol used to be very active during the day, and feeding was never a problem. But a month ago, I added a blue hippo tang. Since then I have not seen my YWG and Tiger Pistol very much. They're hiding in their hole all the time. Sometimes, I'll see them come out during feeding and get a couple pieces of food, but as soon as the YWG spots my Hippo Tang, they dart back in the hole, not to be seen for hours.

That being said, does anyone have a suggestion about how to feed my YWG and Tiger Pistol? I've tried spot feeding right by their hole, but they still don't come out to get it.

Also, will my YWG ever "get used" to having the Hippo Tang around and start coming out during the day again?

Thanks!

I would think eventually they will settle back in, how long have you had the tang?

Mine run in spurts where I would see them all the time, now I only see the pistol & I haven't seen the yasha in about 4 weeks or more. If they're hungry they will come out. The pistol will eat the sinking algae wafers if you want to break off a piece & feed that. If you're really worried about them not eating you could target feed them at the opening of the burrow after you feed the tank. That way everyone else has eaten & they will have a better chance.

Thanks for the info!

I got the tang 2 months ago, but kept it in quarantine for a month. So it's only been in my display for a month.

I will try the sinking wafers for the pistol, and I've been target feeding using a turkey baster, and shooting some food in/around their burrow entrance. I just haven't seen them come out much, so not sure if they're actually getting the food.
