when my sump is done, my ovefflow will most likely suck upp all the food i put in, can i stop the overflow? without brerakign sihpon?


if i ptu a ball valve on it and close it, will it stopsucking, but not break the siphon?


or will i just have to break it then restart every time?

The siphon should never break. You can turn your pump on and off as much as you like. If the siphon is breaking when you shut off your pump there is something wrong with the overflow design.

well its not even on now, i dont know if it will ro not, so if i shut off my pump during feeding time, the siphon will not break, but it wont suck any water?

put a ball valve in, and sit back and have a cigar.

Take a glass and put it in a bucket of water. Turn it upside down and raise the glass almost all the way out of the bucket. The glass stays full of water :eek1: . Now raise it a little more until it "breaks siphon", wow, all the water rushes out of the glass.

The siphon overflow works on the same principle, a properly designed overflow should never break siphon.

yea i thought so, so if there is a litle water in the overflow box, it wont lose its siphon... i get it, you can also take a check put it on top of a glass of water filled filled until it overflows, then flip it upside down and the water will stay in, i get sihpons, somethine has to fill the space, there is not enough energy to make a vaccum so the water goes in, i just didnt understand how these kept siphons, i do now
