Feeding

Right guys, I have 2 tangs, 2 shrimp, 1 wrasse, 1 brittle star and the usual clean up crew.

I am currently feeding my fish 2-3 times a day on seamix frozen cubes that have been defrosted, protein bombs and also let them graze on noris seaweed. I also have an invert mix which I put 1 defrosted cube in every week for the little dudes! All this is from the LFS. Is this ok?

My Mrs is concerned about my yellow tang, he looks a bit like this.

Is he underweight or is this normal? The Powder Blue has a good belly on him!

Also I want to start making my own food. Am I ok just getting offcuts from the local fish monger, blend it up and freeze it in ice cubes? I need to add something into the cubes but can not remember what the liquid stuff is called! My local shop sell raw tiger prawns at a bargain price, should I blend this for the cubes or chop and feed?

Cheers!

I have 5 fish in my 75 gallon, yellow tail damsel, royal gramma, maroon clown, blue tang, and a flame angel. They get fed only one time a day, alternating between flake one day and a mixture of frozen foods the other day. They graze on live rock thru the day and none of them seem to be underfed.I do believe yellow tangs tend to be on the thin side as far as appearance goes.If you observe him eating regularly when he is fed,I would not worry.Good luck.

If by feeding 2-3 times a day you mean feeding 2-3 frozen cubes a day I would say you're over-feeding more than anything. With only 3 fish in the tank that sounds like an awful lot. As for the tangs weight, I'd say that's perfectly normal. Yellow tangs are really slim in appearance. The only concern with these guys is usually bloating - typically a sign of poor nutrition or limited food sources. But, given that you're feeding a variety as well as feeding nori (which is great for digestion) this should never be a problem for you.
