I'm having problems getting my mantis to eat. I've had her for a week and she's only had one snail. There are 6 hermits in there with her. I've tried shrimp, krill, mussel, crabmeat, clams, and mysis. Help!
She's been out. Gathered stuff to close off her burrow. Beating on snails (only ate one) Pounds on the live rock and pvc pipes. She comes out, she just never eats.
She's acting worse. She looks like she's having occasional seizures. Please tell me she's molting. She is kind of curled up and sometimes lays on her side.
Good. She's still just laying around, but I've heard her strike a couple of times, and it's still loud. I tried putting some brine shrimp near her, I don't know if she ate or not. She doesn't stay in one place too long. I'hope she's fine
Now she's mostly on her back or side and seems unable to right herself. I have got some food in her, but she doesn't seem to be getting better. Does anyone have any ideas about what might have caused this? Or what to do?
I dont know if I can be of much help here, but for an extremely short time (like maybe a month) I had a mantis that had some sort of shell and eye disease. He was extremely lathargic and completely blind, he eventually lost one eye. Check to see if you mantis' eyes look cloudy or if there are uusual spots on the shell. My Mantis ate very heartily but only when target fed because he could not see the food. Hopefully this is not the problem but if it is I have seen mantis's live for a while with this problem- so good luck!
She was fine for the first week. It's kind of hard to get a good look at her. She mostly stays curled up like a ball, hidden in/under the live rock. I don't think she's blind. She watches me, and before she was ill, she'd scurry away whenever I got close to the tank.
I am not sure if this will make you feel better, but my Peacock lays on its back and or side when it molts in plain view in its cave. It also take a long time to molt compared to my other mantis.
