Hello folks,
I've been reading the forum everyday for many weeks. I am having trouble identifying what my fish has ick, velvet, brook, uronema and flukes. I just lost a pyramid butterfly and a regal angel in the past few weeks. Both fishes were purchased around the same time from the same LFS.
Both fish shared the same QT tank and they were under ick shield (CP) treatment. About 3 weeks in, I lost my pyramid. It had mucus covering it on the last day and had some red patches on the skin. I thought it was brook or uronema, so I started feeding the regal metro laced food and gave the regal a formalin dip.
The regal never shown any symptoms except it has always been breathing rapidly and its appetite declined and it's gill plates looks reddish / pinkish color. I thought it could have been secondary infection so I treated it with furan 2. Meanwhile, I performed TTM with CP to ensure water quality & hoping that if it was ick, it will be eliminated.
Today I lost my regal, no signs of any damage over it's skin but it was lying on the bottom of the tank breathing heavily just before it died. What could be the cause of death? I'm trying to be a better fish keeper and I am wondering what other resources I could acquire? I'd like to buy a book that would show me pictures and/or help me identify different kind of diseases and I'll even willing to invest in a microscope if that's what I need to do.
Can someone suggest what I should do? I've been reading everyday and I don't think I'm getting any better by just visiting the forum.
BTW, I'm also treating a pair of bellus in a different QT tank from the same LFS and I am not wanting to loose them. I'll start a different thread to pick your brains. Thank you in advance!
