Hi Reefers,
Feels like my Remora HOB Skimmer isnt working. I hear the bubbles, but nothing in the collection cup.
However, when I was cycling the tank, for a few days the Remora S did froth a bit and have bubbles come up after I added Live Rock and Sand. Initially was going barebottom frag but converted to shallow reef instead during the cycling period. I cycled for about 5 weeks with a Marine Pure Block and a bottle of Tims, then an additional 3 weeks after adding rock and sand.
Ive had 3 clowns and an BTA, 1 turbo snail, 1 flame shrimp, 3 astrea snails, 5 nerite snails in the tank for about 2 weeks. My skimmer doesnt seem to be working? Is it possible the the current filtration I have setup is keeping my water too clean?
I feed once a day in a mag ring and about a half pinch. I watch the fish eat almost everything.
Current Equipment:
- JBJ 20G AIO Frag Tank
- Vortech MP10, and Jaebo R-W4
- Standard 266gph that the tank came with
- AquaClear 70 HOB Filter, only using Carbon packet and sponge, removed the little bio pellets.
- Marine Pure Block - I cut this up into plates because the block wouldnt fit. So i have about 3/4s of a block in the back of the tank.
- Remora S HOB protein skimmer.
- 20lbs of Fiji Pink live sand
- 8 lbs of Live Rock
Currently no problem with any algae growth, Maybe a little bit of brown on the top of the sand, but that might be due to my light being on a lot more than it should.
