Felt Horrible!

Hi gang,

I had a horrible experience over the weekend. I transferred my flame angel from QT into the main tank, I tried to do everything the best I could to keep stress level low. I used a soft fine mesh net, I put the net in the QT tank and sat there for awhile so I could catch him on one swoop, I caught him first try stress level nice and low then put him into my transfer container to start acclimating but he was stuck in the net!! At first I thought it was his fin but it was actually his nose, they have these little antannae that I think was the part that got stuck. I gently wiggls the net under water and he worked free. He seems fine and after a few minutes was out and about picking at the live rock. He even ate dinner later that evening (a little). I guess sometimes it doens't work out as planned but I'm still mad at myself! What do people do with tangs and such with all of those spines?

my lfs uses those clear containers they put your fish into before the bag. but they corner them and get them to swim into the box

Use a disposable container (ie. ziploc, food storage) with holes in the bottom so extra water drains..nothing to get caught on..

+1 nets create stress, get a specimen cotainer (those acrylic things the LFS uses for fish) their only like 5 bucks or something

But without a net, no matter what container you use some of the QT water or bag water will drip into your DT.

With my yellow belly hippo tang I just drip acclimated him in the bag and used the net to get him out. He's been in my DT now for over a month and she's doing great!!

if you dont do it right it could, think of it as a 100% water change within the holding container (whatever it might be). keep dumping or scooping water out of it while it's dripping untill there is no QT water or LFS water left and only DT water in the container.

yeah I have a couple that I use to acclimate the fish in. I guess I never thought to use it to actually catch the fish!
I think its easier to catch the fish with it because the can't tell where is is exacty because it clear.
