Update

To everyone interested in purchasing Bluestripe Pipefish......................

I telked to the guys at my LFS today and they haven't sent the order yet.

There's been a delay because of bad weather and livestock losses.

I will let you guys know when this thing is going to happen.

Hi Seamonkey,

The Importer is in LA. I would have to go to the shop and look on the invoice to see who they are.

I guess you would need a buis licence I.D. # to buy from them.

If you want their info let me know.

i got one also my lf store had one so I took it. I can't tell sex tough any help. It is only about 2 inches. Sweet!

The male has tiny bumps along his snout..females do not.I have never been able to get mine to accept any prepared foods...I have had mine for well over a year. Some say cyclop-eeze or Hikari mini mysis.

He eats copepods. I have had him in my main tank for most of the time I have had him. I would only see him swimming the reef in the early morning hours. Just a few weeks ago,I saw him swimming up near the back glass,so I dipped a net in and caught him. He's now living in my refugium, where he gets all the pods he wants.
I got the phone call today that I had been waiting for so long for. {or so I thought:rolleyes: } I have my name up at the shop that got me the male pipefish, to call me if they get any in. There are some new people working there..and the guy thought they were bluestripes. So I drive 45 minutes to get there..and they were'nt:( .They were a beautiful pair though..perhaps young Janns's. Oh well...I will continue my quest.:)

good luck to you! I have mine in my fuge right now, but I am waiting for my sh/pipe tank to cycle then thats were he will go. I hope he will do fine. he looks to b in good health. Today he has been swiming all over the place. thanks for the info.

how big do the bluestripe get? Are they the same as the african blue stripe?

how big of a tank do they need to be in?

Just a couple inches..but I would'nt keep them in a small or new tank. Think of them like a mandarin, they need plenty of LR, a mature tank and preferably a refugium to give them the food they need. The ones I am talking about are doryhamphus excisus excisus.

would they do well in a reef tank?

I was thinking of getting a pipefish for a small 5 gallon tank. It has VERY established LR from a 3+ year system, and some softy corals. Crawling with pods.

If the pod population diminishes, I will move him to a larger system's fuge (i have a 150gallon system almost done), and / or dose with live copepods until I can find another solution.

summary of my questions:

1. 5g tank large enough?
2. If it's not, is it because of food, or because of swimming size?
3. Will it do ok in a reef? pretty low flow
4. Where can I get one?
5. Will it eat non live food?

I will only be keeping a single pipefish.

1. I would'nt do it
2. I just would'nt..no matter how many pods it looks like to you..it could never sustain a pod eating fish IMO.
3. I kept mine in a reef for over a year..unlike other pipefish..these can swim quite well.
4.I have no clue..the whole premise of this thread.
5.No..not that I have seen..their mouth is about the size of this= * :eek1:

thanks for the reply!

I probably won't put it in the 5g then. maybe in my 150g system if I don't get a mandarine or scooter so they won't fight for pods.

sorry for the delay in reply i am curently traveling at the moment. I should retrun home by the begining of next week. I will post his web site then. When i talked to him last week he had a whole bunch of them for $22.99ea. He even has yellow seahorses for $40 each :).
