Some comments on the pictures:

Are you using apature or photoshop to help your pictures a bit? Your Nikkon should take some decent pics with your tripod.

You already told me you didn't turn the pumps off. That will help.

Are you using the timer function?

We will make this work.

I just put the pictures in photobucket without any editing. I did use the timer feature as well.

Well if your Nikon is anything like mine you can put the switch on auto focus and snap away.

I am pretty sure I have it...the little "eyeball" figure seems to do the auto-focus thing.

I'm going to attempt putting my clam in the middle of my star polyps and see what happens. I have seen some pictures of it before and it looks amazing.
