Man, I can't catch a break. Where is good carma when you need it!? I offer to give stuff away and go down to turn out the basement lights and check the tanks only to find my newly set up tank I was bringing to the swap had a major heater malfunction today! Take the pocilopora colony off, it has no tissue left, it's floating in the haze of aquarium water along with the huge green cap frag I was giving to Phu (sorry) and a new digi I just got from Fishdoc11. I didn't throw a thermometer in the tank but it was smokin hot and the heater was still fired up full steam. A 300 watter mind you on since noon today so 12 hours. It was set on 79 but it for sure has failed regretfully in the ON position! I had set it up and was moving the things not sold yet over so they could be acclimated to the flow in the 20 and be looking best for the swap to sell. The pre-sold stuff I left in there respective homes and was just gonna bag them up that morning. Thank Goodness I did!! Grrr is all I can say. Oh and I have no salt mix to do a WC with, mixed the last up to fill the 20 today. Off to Emerald bay tommorow I guess. I filled the 20 with the 270's water and put the new SW in the 270 if someone is thinking new water shock. It was all old water, short 5 gallons added last. And I temp acclimated everything to boot to just be safe! Grrr. Off to bed...
Sorry to hear that Angela, hopefully everything else made it....Did my stuffs made it?? I had a heater malfunction on me, won pro I got from reewik, it went bad after a month of usage. I had to take that thing off quick.....It about freaked me out....
sorry to hear about your mess. i was just talking to my wife the other day about how heaters have always stuck on for me and im about sick of paying so much money for a top of the line heater and have it get stuck on. ive never had one heater not get stuck on atleast within 6 months of buying it. at one time i had 3 heaters in a row get stuck on within 3 months time so out of the 3 they lasted about a month a piece. ive tried every heater out there and still yet to not have one stick on and about boil my tank. most of the time im always worried so i watch for it and catch it on time but it sucks having to worry. seems like someone could come up with a better heater. the funny thing is my wife had a heater for around 4 years for fresh water that was a cheap walmart heater and it never gave out untill she dropped it and broke it. so maybe the cheaper walmart heaters are the way to go lol. anyways hope everything else works out for you.
Mikey I hadn't moved anything pre-arranged. Mainly the 3 I mentioned bit the dust. I have some softies in there but they seem unaffected, naturally....
I totally agree Pitbull! I have a walmart in my nano and its been a champ! My $45 one in the big tank decides to not heat up on occasion but the temp doesn't fluctuate fast in 300+ gallons so its not a problem and it stays 75 down there also.
Ang~ Was still waiting on a polyp count from you... No hurry or anything, but my fragging time is running short... So if the trade is still on??? Shoot me a PM... Sorry about the heater...
Got you down I can't belive someone had not grabbed that one up Mike! It is a very nice zoa. I will frag it and try to get a bigger than smaller count for you! I will hold the galaxia for you and you can look at it Saturday. Its a healthy little coral and been through many tank moves and keeps on trucking.
Oh the cold got most of mine also in the 80 to 270 swap. Duh. Also I didn't check the alk and PH and being 99% New water I am sure it was way higher than the old water they came from..
Look familiar?
Angela, I have put my heater on a timer. it seems to be set at a permanant 82. so I have it only run for like 6 hours. mainly during the late overnight . My lights run from 11am to 10:30pm so I dont have it on during those times. plus with a mag 9.5, pcx40, 85gph pump for Coil, and skimmer pump all running 24-7, they keep the water pretty stable.
