FHI corals

Are FHI corals aquacultured in closed system aquariums or the ocean? I notice that the size of their corals is bigger than the others offered for sale on DD.

Andy,

Thank you for your patience while we obtained this information for you. The FHI corals are aquacultured in a closed system under artificial lighting. If we can be of any further assistance, please feel free to contact us.

Hate to dig up an old thread, but I see more and more FHI corals popping up.

Can you tell us a little bit more about this company, and TCN corals as well?

Thanks!

iFisch,

Thank you for your inquiry. We would be happy to look into further information about these companies with our Aquaculture Coral and Marine Life Facility. We hope to have this information for you soon.

Thank you very much. :)

iFisch,

Thank you for your patience while we received this information.

FHI is a California grower and supplier of aquacultured coral frags. These corals are grown indoors under metal halide lighting and natural seawater.

TCN is a Florida based company that grows and supplies coral frags, which are grown indoors under VHO and T-5 lighting.

The corals supplied by both FHI and TCN are received, conditioned, colored up, and quarantined for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to us selling the stock in the Divers Den section of the LiveAquaria web site.

We hope this information is helpful. If you have further questions please contact us.

Awesome. Do you know how long each company has been in business for? Just curious, that's all. :)

And when you say they are "quarantined for a minimum of 2 weeks" - what's the process? Are they just not for sale for 2 weeks, or are dips performed and medications added?

Just curious as to your quarantine process for incoming corals from these facilities.

Thank you for your time.

TCN is "The Coral Nursery" http://www.thecoralnursery.com/newsite/

FHI is "fish Heads Inc" http://www.fishheadsinc.com/index.html

Both are wholsealers, and are quite well known.

LFS gets alot of FHI pieces and I've always had good luck with them. If they don't look too hot in the beginning they often turn into real gems.
