fiber optic lighting

does anyone know what type of reduction can be expected from running light through fiber optic cable. i realize it depends on the cable and length, any rough numbers would be much appreciated. i have come across attenuation numbers, but how does a reduction in decibel/ft relate to par/lumen loss? as you can probably tell i have no expierence with fiber optics :p

cheers,

eric

I might have it in a Fiber Optic OTDR manual, when I get a chance I'll have a look. The best I can do off the top of my head is .25db per Km @ 1550 nm. Or .35db per Km @ 1320 nm. That's assuming you are using singlemode fiber and a laser. What kind of light source are you using?

i would be great if they have fiber optics that can filter out infrared light so we can use sunlight without the burning effect.

At what angle will the light be entering the fiber? What size of fiber? What are you trying to do?
