Fiddling with 240/3 skimmer

My new 240/3 is finally running on my tank. The water level is right at the top squiggly line, and the air intake is open most of the way. There are lots of bubbles, but very, very little skimmate. It has only been a week, but the cup only has about, say, two or three inches of skimmate. I know there is more junk in the water than that: I was running an AquaC Remora Pro on the tank (way too little skimmer for the tank, hence the upgrade) and it was pulling out about a coffee-mug-full every day.

Just wondering how to improve its production. The only changes available to me are raising the unit, or tightening the screw to impede the air flow.

What is the typical break-in period on these units?

It usually takes 2 weeks to get really optimal performance. Having the air intake open more than about 3 turns will actually impede performance because you get excessive turbulence breaking the foam column. The only other thing to do is be sure that their is not a lot of turbulence around the skimmer, the water should be fairly calm for good results.
