I posted a question in the chemistry forum as I was not sure where to ask. I was then refered here. I am getting white "slime" in my sump every time I shut off the sump pump to feed. As the water enters the sump it fills up with a bunch of that white slime. Please take a look at this post and tell me if you have any ideas? thanks derickclick here

I have seen that stuff before.......It grew in my hose coming off of my return. Everytime I turned off the return pump then started back up it spit the stringy slimy stuff into the display. All I can think is that it is some type of bacteria built up over time. In my opinion it was harmless.I cleaned the hoses and it never came back.

gundo, thanks for the reply, I think it is growing inside my return as well, except in goes back into my sump when i shut it off, then when i turn it back on it now goes into the display, I wish i knew what caused it.

Do you use hose or pvc? If hose, do you also have a fuge light that directs light ontop the hose? This is what I suspected(access light) to cause this slime/growth.

Update:

This slime is getting much worse. It is cloging up my phosban reactor, and my return pump. Despite ro/di water (0 tds) This "bacteria" is forming everywhere. I need to find the cause. Only thing I can possible think of, despite rinsing very well is my filter socks my contain a little bleech and that could be doing some thing. but thats a long shot.

Take your pump off, open it up(if possible) and get new pvc or hose for your return. This should get rid of it for now until you figure out the cause.

I really doubt the Filter Socks.

ya the filter sock was a long shot. I use hose. And I just cleaned it 2 weeks ago and that stuff is back, I never noticed it when i used pvc. But thats not to say the hose is the cause.

I had the same problem with hose, and it is not apparent with PVC pipe. It almost seemed as if the inside of the hose was melting down or otherwise decomposing. Is that what you are seeing derick75?
