Figuring out RODI direct to can plumbing, and some other ??s

So, to start, I have little to no experience with plumbing and I've avoided situations where I would need to do it until now. I am reasonably handy so I'm not concerned in that regard. Here's what I'm trying to figure out -

I ordered a 100GPD RODI unit and float valve and picked up two 32Gal Brute trash cans. I'm looking to run the RODI unit directly into a 32 Gal Brute trashcan to hold it. The second trash can will be used for mixing, which leads to some questions.

My current plan is to run a hose from the connection on the exterior of my house into the garage and into the RODI unit. Will a float valve be an appropriate solution to stopping the flow of water from this setup? I understand this isn't ideal but I'm struggling to come up with a better solution as I'm a renter.

The second issue is moving water from one of the 32Gal brutes to the other without just manually bucketing the water. Obviously I know that plumbing will be involved but I'm not sure how or what parts would achieve this.

I understand this is a lot to ask so if someone has something like this setup in a thread I missed a link will do!

Let me know if I need to clarify anything here.

Thank you!

Search for the numerous posts on "mixing stations" they will show how people use one pump to fill and mix,etc... (valves to change/direct flow as needed) between 2 brutes.

And yes a float valve can be used along with the asov valve..
I would only use it though as an "oops I forgot to turn off the water" as there are times when they don't seal completely/fail.. They are "fairly" reliable though..

Because you rent I would just use a submersible pump big enough to do a water change from the brute to the tank. This can also be used to move water from brute to brute & mix the saltwater.
Now as far as a supply for the water, you don't say where you are but if it gets cold where the water could freeze DO NOT use the outside hose.

Ah, thanks for mentioning that. I'm in the Bay area so temps below freezing happen maybe once or twice a year (and really only at night) so I can make sure to just shut off the water during those times as needed. Since I have a smaller tank I will likely only be running it when I need water changes, I just want to make it as easy as possible to move and mix. Thanks for the tip!

A float valve will work fine as long as the RO has an auto shut off valve.
Frequent starts & stops can cause membrane fouling so wait until the can is fairly low before filling again.

That's good to know. Is there a recommendation for a pump as I don't have any lying around I can use?

Depends on your head height and distance to the tank.

On my first mixing station I had a spare sicce syncra 2.0. While it was slow, it did work. Typically any submersible pump will do the job(some will just move the water faster then others) as long as your not pumping up a flight of stairs.

plumbing for such things will require some bulkheads, or uniseals, some pipe and glue. It's not hard, but can certainly be daunting if your not used to plumbing.

As mentioned, just search for "mixing stations". There is an entire thread around devoted to how to make and set them up.

Like Homer said - depends on length of run & head pressure.
I use an old Rio but i'm close.
Thank you!

Thanks for all the info. I think the main thing I was missing was what keywords all of the threads were hidden under. I've found a ton of doable ideas in that huge mixing thread. I appreciate you pointing me there!

+1 on that. Just a simple pump from one to the other.
