Fiji Devils!

Ill try as stated before. But they sure are all living. All Ive lost at this point is about 20 out of 800 to 1,000.I consider that good. And if ya'll think Im raising them JUST on BBS Im not. They are also being fed a liqued diet. They sure seen to be eating just fine.Even my petstore said that they would be fine and could live off of the BBS.Also,I would be feeding rots but in MO we have little to no saltwater stores. The ones we do have are inexpeienced and just want to make a buck or two off of me.So thats why they are being feed BBS.I do have rots on order but till they get here they will have to eat BBS.

Well, I wasn't saying they weren't eating, I was saying that they probably aren't eating the BBS so you might want to check that closely. No sense killing your water quality with food that they can't eat.

No offense to your petstore, but I'd imagine that their experience with raising fish fry is probably limited to freshwater. Marine fish are a different ballgame, as you know since you are working with clowns.

The only guy that I know that has had success with this genus says that small calanoid copepods are the way to go. (http://www.marinebreeder.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=5330) He also says that day five is the magic number. That's starvation time if they've not found food. So, if they hatched on 1/23, then they must be eating something.

I understand. But also I will say that my water quality is GREAT!No ammonia and little nitrite and nitrate.

My pet store here has had about 20 to 25 years experience with the rasing of salt water and fresh. And yes they are diffirent than fresh water as they need better water quality/food/tank size ect.

Yup they have been eating something as you stated because their still alive.Past day five and going strong!

I do agree that they probobly need rots but like I said before I dont have the ability to get rots here.So Ive placed an order for them yesterday because I know that they cant grow strong and healthy off of BBS their whole life.I look at BBS like Roman Noodles. They fill you up but theres nothing there. No nutrition or anyrthing really. But I needed something to feed these guys because I have limited supply avaible to me.

Congrats on the babies and where are you in MO? Im up in kirksville lol

Well I lost both batches.Cats decided that the tank was their littler box and now Im about to pay people to take these cats!

This "experiment" isnt going so well.Only a few live.Nothing like breeding clownfish.Ive tryed just about every food out there the past weeks!

Anyone got anymore tips???

Acartia tonsa nauplii. Luis has gotten damsels through on _only_ this food. Very, very good nutrition sets 'em up for all the physical challenges later.

Thanks umm fish.I've ordered that food, we will see what happens I guess. Let's see if I get better than 15 percent survival rate.

I dont have pics of the egss.I do have some on file but the eggs are so tiny.

I will get pics of eggs next batch.I do have a pic of one of the parents.

Austin/clowns101 how far are you from St Louis? I'm in St Charles, MO and would be interested in buying some clowns if you have any to sell.

Thanks,
Michael/Swordfisher

Hello Swordfisher,
Im not to far from St.Louis.Im about 6 hours. All clowfish fry(young and growing)are about 3/4 of an inch long. All I go that are looking good are tomatos. They are pretty small.I also got one lonly maroon but wont sell her due to her/his problem with problems eating!

Okay evey one.Laid a new batch and Im ready to get pics of them for yall.I Will get updated pics of these guys and will also get pics of the parents as well!

OK. Mods dont give me an infraction this is a serious post.

So have they spawned again in the past year? Any luck raising any of the fry?

I have to agree that it is hardly possible that damsel larvae could be raised with bbs. They simply dont fit into their mouths!
And the fish depicted here is a YTD,C.parasema.You can see a pic of the Fiji devil,C.taupou,in my avatar. This was the 1st devil raised, the story can be seen in the link given above.
