Fiji Miralce Mud / Protein Skimmer

One more week and all my rock is fully cured and the tank will be started up! :D

I have a refugium section where I was planning on putting some cheato. I have read about Fiji miracle mud and some people swear by it. Has anyone used it and feel that it helps the corals?

It sounds like a protein skimmer is not ideal to use with this. I already have one. Has anyone used both and just limited the time the skimmer runs per day?

I'm going to buy one of the large Reefers within the year. Looking at the sump volumes and layouts, and to me, they don't look ideal for a mud refugium. I've never understood what unique advantages, if any, this product offers in a standard reef aquarium that can't be achieved by other methods.

If I were to use one I would want it in a separate, isolated refufium that could be taken offline with the flip of a switch and a turn of the valve. The reason being, if it becomes a nutrient trap and I have to remove it, I'd want to make the process as easy and non disruptive as possible. Others will probably have different ideas.

I don't know what the price of the stuff is now, but I spent a few bucks on sand and broke up some extra live rock from display. Everything in my tank is happy and growing great. I had the same dilemma threeish years ago and went with sand after doing some research.
