Fiji Refugium Mud

i have heard that the production company takes small amounts of mud from the ocean and mixes it with stuff from land to reduce costs.

(by small i mean percentage wise) 8(

Hi Uncle Salty,
Sorry to reply so late but this post was just brought to my attention.
First of all the product is 100% from the ocean floor harvested near the reef. We do not mix it with anything and I would be curious to know how that would reduce cost.
Secondly, have you ever seen the ocean .... it's kind of big. To say that just one of the many, many mud patches out there is about the size of three football fields (I don't even know how deep) is putting it mildly. If I took 10 dump truck loads out per day you could not even put a dent in one of these patches. The fact is we probably sell about one dump truck load per year. How much of this stuff did you think we sell anyway? Furthermore, the stuff is constantly being replenished naturally.
We get the same sort of thing when talking about coral harvest. We have had to have many scientific studies done on our harvest and the latest was just completed (again) this year for the "non detriment finding" required by C.I.T.E.S. (Convention of International Trade of Endangered Species) and we have a scientifically proven harvest of .001%. When you do the math on that it means that for every 10,000 pieces of coral on a given reef we take 10. By comparison if you want to know what is considered sustainable in forestry it is 3% - 5% and we are not even close to that number. The fact is the coral grows faster than we harvest but we still have people out there (who have never seen the size of the reefs we work on) say we are destroying the resource. It's just a matter of common sense once you see the size of the areas we work.
I hope this puts it into some kind of perspective for you and I did not intend any disrespect in my reply.
Good luck with your wonderful hobby which has created the awareness that made you concerned enough to question this in the first place.

Hey Walt, thanks for your reply.

Do you have a picture of the collection areas for this mud?

I'll like to see it too.

Also I was using Miracle muds and you tell me is Fiji mud better then the Miracle muds or about the same.

walt will likely tell you his is better.

Miracle mud is only 80% ocean mud, the other 20% is synthetic material. Fiji Mud is 100% from the ocean floor.

Walt, to send my commission please pm

Thanks Jabrams,
Check is on the way! (LOL)
But I would like to repeat that Fiji Mud is the ONLY 100% ocean mud on the market ... all natural!
I was not aware that MM claimed 80% ocean mud. How do they make this claim for a product that is completely dry? I am not trying to run them down, just interested, after all MM did bring the refugium technology to the masses. But the mud (I find) leaves a little yet to be desired.

thanks for the site, and by is it legal, i meant taking photos of the facility and posting them(maybe legal was a bad choice of word looking back.

meaning against the UA? I don't think it is since you are asking him a direct question. Walt couldn't start his own post to show them. At least that is my understanding of the RC UA.

Hi all,
If I am supposed to resond to this i will first need what the heck you are talking about. I do not understand the meaning of UA and perhaps I am out of the computer jargon loop.
I am happy to answer any question you throw at me as long as I understand what you are asking.
Sorry to be dumb on this issue.
Walt

UA is the user agreement.

There are some parts in it about commercial posts, in that they want this to be a forum for learning and exchange of ideas, I'm not sure how much of that is different for sponsers. I would think that as someone asked the direct question that you should be able to post any pictures etc to explain the process of how your product is collected.

As an ex-sponsor and now non sponsoring vendor my above post is my understanding of the rules and I have yet to be banned over it and I've only had my hand slapped a few times before I figured out what they wanted :)

IMO/IME he's fine to reply with pics :)

I'd love to post some pics and video of Walt's operation as long as he is ok with that. I'm still waiting to take some updated video of his eco-friendly farms and operation so that people can witness it first hand ;)
