film of algae on top of water

i have an open top and a hanging orbit light fixture. i see theres a film of algae on the top, which my overflow (hang on back) doesnt suck up. it sucks up water from the bottom but the top layer of water just circulates out again. how can i fix this?

How thick is the algae film? Reach in a pull it out. Or you can run a small powerhead pointed near the surface to break up the film

I had that same problem a while back. I pointed one of my powerheads up just enough to ripple the water and it helped.
