Will work for fish
Hey guys I've begun to develop this filmy, mucusy hairy algae on my rocks... It's not green it's clearish and it's slowly draping over my rocks

Can anybody chime in on this? Thanks!! My tank is about 3 years old

I believe its often identified as Chrysophytes.

A film/mucous would typically be bacteria.. Could be lyngbya but I think you are feeling regular bacterial growth/slime plus algae..

I can always rely on you sir. Thanks. Is it something that is bad? It's unsightly do you know what cause might be?

It could be overfeeding but phoshates undetectable and nothing else notable thanks

The reason for algae/bacteria issues like that can be very hard to diagnose..

Many believe that its still a nutrient issue but the algae is absorbing the nutrients fast enough that they aren't detectable through our test kits..

Some may suggest trying GFO in an attempt to consume/compete for phosphates or other methods to reduce nutrients like carbon dosing for nitrates/phosphates.. Or algae scrubbers/focus algae cultivation,etc...

Good luck..
