Filter Canister Hook Up

I'm going to hook a filter canister up and run Rowa Phos to lower my high phosphates. My question is, where and how do I hook this up.

Can I get the same results if I put the Rowa Phos directly into my filter sock?

PO4 absorbing materials typically have and optimum flow they work well in and do better if they can tumble than if they are squished in a filter sock IMHO.

So where does the canister get hooked up, before the filter sock?
