Hello all,
From my previous thread on high dKH, "little help with some corals and high dKH". I wanted to start a new tread for a different topic.
I had a few other questions that my seem rather simple, but I'm not sure I know the correct answers...
How long should you take before changing/cleaning/adding media to your filter/sump. I get the urge to want and clean it out (just to clear out the debris with water) but at the same time I'm not sure about damaging the bacteria content/levels. I have been doing a cleaning about every 6 months or so. Good or bad?
I'm under the impression that you need to stagger the process so you don't deplete your bacteria all at once. Correct?
How about food? I've read, feed what they can eat in 1 min - 3 min, based on the fish type. Is that roughly right?
I feed and stagger brine shrimp cube, mysis cube, pellets and algae wafers occasionally some seaweed/algae strips for the tang.
Also as mentioned I supple about 5mL of phytoplankton/zooplankton every day per 55gal. Too much? I was also supplying amino acids and vitamins at 4mL daily, but I'm going to cut back.
When it comes to feeding time, the bristle worms (as well as everything/one else) comes out to feed too, I thought they were mostly nocturnal, are they coming out during the day because there's a lack of food? Too much food?
Since I have a heavy load I supply meats (frozen cube) twice a day, pellets and algae wafers once per day to the fish, 5ml of some sort of pyoto and zoo plankton and 4ml of amino acids and vitamins. My Duncan and Anemone get mysis once - twice a week. they're are also all sorts of copepodes in the tank and sump as well.
It always appears that they want more, but I've also been told they'll eat as long as you give them food. Whats the correct answer here?
It seems hard to find the balance between enough food and low bio load, and there's is too much incorrect information out there, so it seems....
Thank you in advance for all your input and answers!
