Hi all,

I need some filter felt and need to sew one side (can't do the simple thing - by a pre-made filter sock). What kind of thread do I use sew it? Fishing line?

The filter fabric is going around a 4"X18" piece of eggcrate. The eggcrate holds the filter upright.

What micron/brand do you recommend? Can you by fish-safe felt from a fabric store like Michaels?

Thanks,

I used the Walmart white polyester, like you see in other threads. It was easy to sew. I used white thread that I had around, I think it was a slightly higher grade like I would sew on a button with but def nothing fancy. My socks catch a lot of stuff, I think it if was any finer micron-wise it might be too much cause I switch it every other day and it is pretty gnarly. I also don't have a skimmer, and I blow off my rocks a little before I take it out so maybe a higher load.
I was thinking they might put starch on it or something, so I boiled the fabric before I cut it into final shapes. like prewashing it, but I wanted to see what came out. Nothing did.

Also, after the first day or too it got kinda pilly like an old sweater does, and some fuzz came off, but not anymore after that.

I'm sure Walmart sources from whoevers factory is cheaper though so I wouldn't rely on my experience too much. Are you gonna sew it like a pillow case, or right to the eggcrate? That'd be hard to wash.

No link, sorry. Just whatev white felt they had in stock atm.
I'm pretty blasé about this stuff, here's a pic so you can see what I mean in its full ghetto-fabulosity

More prudent reefers may do things differently, to say the least
