Filter should be on 24/7?

So I got the " Penn Plax Cascade Canister Aquarium Filter" Cascade 1000

For my 36 G

Does it need to be on and running 24/7 ?

Ps: I don't have any other filters

Yes, if you shut off a canister filter all the bacteria and gunk inside the filter decays anaerobicly and poison you tank when you turn it back on.

Yes leave it running 24/7 you will do more harm then good if you have it running off n on all the time

Yes, leave it on 24/7. Have you ever thought of running a skimmer instead of a canister? Generally they are not long term filters.
