Filter sock issue

Ok my tank has been up and running for almost 2 months now and have been using mesh filter socks from BRS. I went to LFS and picked up some felt filter socks and when i put them in my skimmer went nuts and started overflowing. I dialed it down but now it has very fine micro bubbles now getting into the tank and the foam starts low in my skimmer but still makes it over the top. Also my sock overflows almost like the water is having tough time going through the sock.

Is this normal for a new filter sock and needs time. Or is this an issue and should just go back to the mesh after it is cleaned?

new socks, or recently washed socks, always cause the skimmer to go crazy. I typically soak new socks or washed socks in some RO/DI water for a few hours and then put it in.

Mine do the same thing, 200micron felt socks. So what I do now is soak them in my sump for 20 minutes before changing.

I pulled them and have them soaking. Just when i thought everything was running so smoothly, skimmer dialed in (Not ANYMORE!) :-(

When new just like floss you need to first wash them in hot water. That will help a lot

I change my filter socks twice a week, and each time I have to adjust my skimmer, I will try soaking them in ro water next time seems like sound advice and id like to stop messing with the skimmer

I finally pulled my socks off for this very reason.
My skimmer and I are both happier without them.

i'd keep mine off but then the drain gets loud and creates foam in my sump without socks.

Running without socks, does that mean your wc is done in the first chamber of your sump?
