Filter Sock?

It was brought to my attention that I should remove the sponge that I have in my overflows because it will trap debris thus keeping NITRATES high. Doesent A filter sock do exactly the same thing?.....I clean my sponges every other day. Thanks!

It all comes down to how good your husbandry skills are. IF you clean it on a schedule then you will be fine. If you don't and let it sit for a while, then yes it can be a trate factory.

Great, I Feed my fish frozen brine twice a day(For My Mandarin, Just started my Ref and loaded it up with copepods and cheato) so those sponges catch most of the uneaten food before it get to my Ref. Plus, the water that comes down to my Ref hits the edge of my cheato ball, thus spinning the ball so the whole ball is getting light.(took me a while to get it just right, but now it works beautifuly)......Thanks for the input!
