So I just set up my 120G tank. I used the caribsea ocean direct sand. I noticed that the filter socks are getting clogged after just a day. Anyone else have this problem using this brand of sand? Or can it be something else?
What micron filter socks are you using? Are you getting sand all the way down to your filter socks? Is it a white muddy feeling buildup in the socks? If so, its the dust/fine particles in the sand that are being filtered out and it should stop after a week or two if you didn't rinse the sand before putting it in the tank. I use 200 micron (14" long socks) on my 150 gallon and a single sock can last up to 4 days for me and i feed twice a day.
Tank has only been running 5 days. When I wash them it is milk white residue. Would it be wise to stir up the sand every day to get the extra fines out so my filter feeders don't have to worry about that? I want to get sand sifting gobies.
