Filtration for 10 gallon nano....

I'm starting my 10 gallon nano project and am looking for some suggestions on what kind of filtration set up I should use. It's going to be a sumpless set up so I'm guessing HOB filter and maybe some small powerheads. There's probably many things to consider when making this choice so I'm hoping you, the experts, can help me choose the best filtration for my nano. Thanks.

I use an aqua-clear 70 hob filter and 1 aqua-clear 20 power head, debating on 1 more ac-20 ph....

sorry...but why not use live rock as your filtration? just get 10 or 15 pounds and thats all the filtration you'll need, and then some water flow. imo, if you use the hob filter for anything besides a fuge and/or flow, it can cause problems (the media in it can) where live rock doesnt cause any problems

I there an easy, effective way to turn a small hang on filter into a fuge of sorts? I was just going to run carbon in the hang on filter.

yes there is. I've done it w/a couple hob's so far w/pretty good results. The first one was a millenium 2000 or something like that...i just put some live rock and cheato on there and it was good to go. i also put some egcrate at the return so the chaeto doesnt come out. i also did the same thing to a whisper 20 hob filter. Not nearly as much space on the bottom, but it worked nonetheless.

srry bout that above. I didnt realize you were just using the filter for carbon.

I currently run my 18g nano (tall tank, same footprint as a ten gallon), with two HOB filters I had handy when I was setting up the tank. They are a Pengiun mini and a Pengiun 170. I took out the biowheels, and removed the carbon from the filter as well, so basically they only provide physical filtration and water flow. Although, I later added a phosphate absorbing pad and some carbon to the Pengiun 170.

In addition to the HOBs, I have two tiny Rio powerheads. Rio 180's. Between the powerheads and the HOBs, I have tons of flow.

Water quality has stayed pretty good, no deaths, clean water. I am adding 10g sump + skimmer, mainly because I am looking for a project.

Thanks guys. I'll look into the Rio 180 for powerheads. This is what I was mainly looking to go with for flow. I'll see if I can't transform an Aquaclear 70 or equivalent into a small fuge and we'll see where it goes from there. Should give me a good starting point though.

You vcan also use a Tom's new canister filter. Works fine and holds carbon. Honestly and while I have fuge's on three of my four tanks, I also have a ten on my desk with live rock and a canister filter with carbon. Had less issues with this little tank than anything with easy to make weekly water cahnges.

Hey henry22 I am setting up a 15tall and was wondering if you could post some pics of yours.
thanks
