Filtration Question

Hey Everyone,

I have an Aquapod 24 gallon and I was wondering what are other people doing for filtration on their own system? Is the stock filtration enough or should I figure out something different?

Thanks all

I have had my 12g nano for 9 months, and have been through every configuration of filtration known to man. So many choices for those 4 little compartments... I will tell you what has finally worked the best for me in terms of stable water parameters.....stable being the most important factor in keeping your inhabitants alive. Number 1 chamber (from left to right)....PolyFilter....best stuff money can buy. Second and third chambers....nothing but water. Fourth chamber.....upgraded pump from stock to maxijet 900...dropped right in...much better flow now. Also equally important is to do at least one 20% water change per week. This routine has yielded a very stable environment for my livestock. Good luck...and keep the pics and questions coming.

ok, so you didn't use the sponge filter, or the bioballs? Sounds like less is more ;)
Also a little off the the topic, did anybody use PVC pipe for aquascaping their liverock? Because I've heard it's good for sand shifters or something in that nature.

Thanks!

I have the same tank and am sorting out my filter media. What did you decide to use in your tank and how did you place it in the chambers?

i had the same question,i dont like the sponge! 2 days ago i saw some briteshrimp going thru the sponge and coming out on the flow! so that means the sponge its not really catching much of bad stuff my water dont need,so im gonna still keep the sponge but next chamber add poly filter and under the poly some carbon...

In my AP24 I removed all the filtration media in chamber 1 and running a Tunze nano skimmer. In chamber 2 i have liverock rubble, chemi-pure, purigen, and phosban.

I am still unclear, do you toss the live rock rubble on top of your pump in chamber 2 and then have the other chemicals in bags on top of it?
Or so you suspend them somehow in the back of the tank?
When I put my fliter floss in chamber 1, it sinks down and the water is able to run around it.
There has to be some method to this. If I put the live rock on top of my pump, wont it have more difficulty staying cool?

Yeah, I'm still a little undecided (still trying to find the best setup), but I can say the bioballs are out. I will probably use... through trial and error the sponges and the bio media. For the chemical processes, I have decided on using some Purigen and SeaGel(activated carbon & phosphate remover together).

I just placed the sponges behind the over-flow and the rest of the other media, simply any where there is a space for it to fit.

Hope this helps

LR rubble, chemipure, purigen, and filter floss are in the back chamber of my AP24. No protein skimmer. No dosing. Catalina 5g weekly water change.

I have a oceanic bio cube 29g...and i just bought a nano skimmer for my tank and i was wodering in the sencond chamber do i take out the bio balls and replace it with the skimmer...or do i leave them and put them some were els...my point is i dont now were to put it..can some one help me please thanx

I'm thinking about buying a protein skimmer. Does anybody know if a Coralife protein skimmer (65 gallon) will fit and work as a HOB on a Aquapod 24 gallon (using back chambers)?

Thanks!
