are fim's tollerant of tankmates? i suspect they can and will eat anything that fits in their mouth? are eels a fairly hardy group of fish?

sorry for all the ?s but im setting up my 180 for salt and would really enjoy a small mixture of eels in there and my lfs has a fim right now.

I had a 2ft + fim that was a monster. Actually had to be careful sticking my arm in the tank when cleaning.

It at fish that were much larger than its head. I to always though if the fish is larger than its mouth it wont be albe to eat them, Boy was I wrong.

It ate the following- blue Jaw trigger 4", Scribbled Rabbit fish 5", Cream Angel 4" and a Niger trigger all became meals for the eel before I decided to get rid of it.

If you want any fish the will have to be very large or you will just have a 180g tank with a eel.

Good Luck.

On Youtube you can find tons of these guys in tanks with other fish..but.. IMHO most eels should be kept solo..they either kill the fish or get killed.. I have heard of certain Butterflyfish picking at eels until the eel dies from the stress.. Anyhow, eels are normally very hardy and would make an awesome solo pet.

+1 On what RayAllen said, mine is almost 3 ft and would definitely like my hand for dinner. His tankmate is a 6+" porky puffer that holds his own with the eel. The eel will mouth at him but has never bitten him, nor has the puffer ever puffed up out of fear.
