Fimbriated (Yellow Headed) Eel advice needed

Well my 12 year old son and I have sent 3 days searching RC and other web sites to learn about 24" Fimbriated eel. We are getting one this week for his 120 aggressive tank. He lost almost everything last march to ich, so it is time to start making it an eel tank.

We have found info but no clear answer on the following questions:

What tank mates (fish or Eel) are possible? We are thinking a puffer >6" (likely dog face) and >6" squirrel fish. From what we read anything <6" is likely food.

How often should the eel be feed? leaning towards every 3 days.

What diameter pvc is good? leaning towards 1.5" but also have extra 1" and 2" pipe.

Can we transport the eel in a 5g bucket or is that too small?

He has been wanting an eel for 2 years (since he purchased the tank with his own money). Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

What's in the tank right now if anything?

I use 2" or 2 1/2" on most of my eel tanks, I think I have 2" in with my fimb.

Feeding a 2' would be roughly every 3 or 4 days depending a lot on the individual eel and also what it was fed.

Transport in 5 gallon bucket for how long? If its from a friends house to yours for example over a short period it should be fine, just dont let the water cool off too much or leave it in too long.

Did you ever treat the 120 gallon tank with copper?

The tank currently has 2 mean 4" solid blue damsels and a 5" scatt. We will likely move the scatt.

The tank has never had copper in it.

The eel is about 1 hr away from our house. We were planning on 5 gal bucket resting in a stryo cooler and setting the car temp to 78 for the ride.

All the tankmates you had listed are potential food. I would go with some of the larger scorpions, triggers, large tangs, lionfish, etc. Not all of course.

how large is the min for the fish you suggest? Is the issue with the fish we wanted type of fish, size, or both?

THANK YOU

I've kept a large dogface with morays, but not with G. fimbriatus. Considering that the eel is already quite large, the squirrel fish will most likely fall victim to it. It really does depend also on what the sizes of the puffer would be, because if by >6" you mean something in the 8-10" range, it might still be too small.

wow the tank is only a 120 I would be hesitant to put in a puffer much larger than that.

Ok what is one fish maybe two and what size that we could keep with the Fimb?

I spoke with the current owner and scheduled pickup. He has had if for years in a 150 with a 6" foxf ace, morish idol, and couple other fish. Not sure if this means he is really mellow, grew up around the others or is just well fed.
