finacky light...

I have a Icecap metal halide balast that I bought in a package with an Iwasaki 250w bulb. When the bulb was due for replacement I decided to get a 10K XM bulb. Now, it only turns on with the timer about 1/2 the time. The rest of the time I have to cycle the on/off switch extra times myself to get the bulb to fire.

I have had this bulb about a month now and thought the bulb might break in...no such luck. Does anyone have any ideas???thanks....

its the ballast some have had problems with them when using the xm bulbs. try the icecap forum

Ya XM 10K bulbs don't work on older IceCap ballasts FWIR, in fact that's why I didn't buy IceCap ballasts, I didn't want to take the chance.

Perhaps you can pay a couple of bucks and upgrade to a newer balast through IceCap? Try their fourm.

If your going to up grade though I would not get ice cap get a EVC or reef fanatic electronic ballast.... They are about the same money and perform better with most bulbs yielding a higher par!
