Hey everybody, after waiting the day for my RODI unit to make enough water, I scaped and filled my tank! I could use some ideas on how my layout is. Thanks for taking the time to look at it. Now its time to hurry up an wait for it to cycle.

Please excuse the dirty glass. Just need to clean that up and all should be well!

I'd get some more rocks to create a cave or two...plus it will give the tank more of a biological filter and the fish will be more comfortable. It does look good but it will fill up with coral frags real fast the way it is now.

Yeah, there are a couple of little caves. I might see if i could find a large piece of rock I can put across the top of the main grouping of rocks. Ill have to go out this weekend to see.

How wide is the tank? Can you move some rocks to the foreground? Also everything is very level you have no real height differances. Also all the rocks are going from left to right try angling some rock. The rock you have on the left is a good start but then it becomes bland. Put some tape on the tank like this (you want to work the red dot areas).

It might take a little while to find the right piece to fit in there to give it more height. I will play with the arrangement over the next few days to get it to where i am completely happy with it. This was my first ever attempt at aquascaping a saltwater tank. With my other ones i would scape with the plants themselves and driftwood. So much easier then it is with saltwater, at least when you are so new to the hobby like me.

You can make a tall rock by bonding rocks together or by chiseling a big rock down. For example the two dark rocks on the right could be made into one tall rock. Certain types of rocks will fit together better then others. What you have looks stacked and not natural. Take a look at this
