FINALLY. quikwall pics and experiences...

hey everyone, thanks for being patient on these pics. ill first start off by saying the quikwall worked great at bonding the rocks and still looking pretty natural. what i did find out though is one, dont use alot of it, and two it truly takes about 2 hours to cure so say goodbye to most of youre coraline. the coraline was no big deal though, my rocks are recovered 2 weeks later. all in all id reccomend this stuff to anyone interested in making some cool shapes. my pics suck, as usual, so you cant get the sense of depth. my pillar on the left has large ledges and overhangs and cast some really cool shadows into the tank. the fish seem to love it as well as none of them stay still or just hover around anymore. in a few pics you can see a few of my 5 fairy wrasses. ive so far acquired a filamented flasher, a blue scale fairy, a lubbocks fairy, and the most recent a gorgeous mccosker's flasher. kermits in memphis has a tono's that im thinking of driving down for because i doubt anyone local can grab me one of those. anywho, sorry for the bad pics yet again but here we go.....

also in case you were wondering, the gray on the rocks is the quikwall. its usually white but i used the quikrete charcoal coloring on it. that may explain the long curing time perhaps b/c i was quite liberal with it. also on a plus side, with the openess of the rockwork i not only noticed a large increase in flow around the tank but also a 2 DEGREE DROP in temperature with the halides on. i used to peak at 81.2 now its 79.7 at full photoperiod. beats spending 500 bucks on a chiller i guess <~~~steve

that looks great. I like the open look to it. I was trying for something like that in my 40 but theres such limited space as it is so id run out of room for corals but this is what im looking to do when we move and have a larger tank. looks like you did a good job for the first time trying it.

yea brian, give it a whirl quite soon. i have 48lbs of the stuff left that lauren is tired of tripping over. we can just pass it around the club danny- def. stop by soon, we'll get some lunch or somethin. and angela- no, the quikwall just bonded the rocks together....essentially its now one solid 40lb column opposed to the 7-8 loose pieces it was before. its def. not man made rock, its bahamian rock with a little branch for looks all gooped together <~~~steve

Is there any concern of point loading so much (where non columnar pieces weight would be more distributed)? I like the look and always wanted to make something like the structures I have seen in the Bahama's (columns with overhangs).

gary i dont think it would be much of an issue with the load, atleast not on a modern tank, i could be wildly wrong and wake up wet one night. so far so good though.

jack, the baserock may be a cool idea as well. im thinking of ordering a 50 pound box of marcorocks and really going insane.
