Hallo, I am getting ready to set up my new 65g.I was going to use over 4 inches of crushed coral as the bottom but after reading that it is nitrates factory I decided to do 4 inch of sand .I like this very fine Natureââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s Ocean sand, but how it is going to stay undisturbed with the wave maker and some fish? Should I use something heavier or this one is ok?

All sand will move around if you have alot of flow on your sandbed. Try not to point powerheads and ect down on your sandbed.

Do you have DSB? If yes ,is it fine sand?

I'm getting ready to set up a 65g myself and that is the exact same sand that I purchased for my tank.
DSB? :)

I have a 1/2'' sandbed now but I used to have a 3'' sandbed and I had sand all over the place and it even got into my powerfilter and messed it up.

I have a DSB with fine sand. The only problem is my own fault. I rescued a tiger Goby from a bad situation and added to my tank. His sifting keeps fine particles in the water column all day long. The Tunze streams keep it moving so its really irritating. I guess he will have to find a new home if doesn't settle down soon. On the fence on whether the fine sand is the best way to go.

I bought this sand and love it..it looks nice and it seems to stay put. I did mix it with some live sand to give it the jump start it needed (but that sand was a similar color).

I started setting up a new 35 gal tank last week. I used about a 2" bed of crushed coral for the substrate as the LFS said it was an acceptable alternative to sand. When I was in a different LFS I heard it could cause problems with nitrate levels. I do not have anything in the tank yet and was thinking about removing the CC and replacing it with about 2" of sand. I got a reply from someone telling me he has had CC in his tank for 6 years and has not had any problems. Now I'm on the fence.

I use the exact same sand from Petco and when i turned on the filter it started pushing it around. So really no way around it :( made a cool efect though, made it look like the Ocean :D

I have a DSB with Special Grade by CaribSea. It clouds pretty bad at first but now I dont have any problems with it. The only thing I really dont like is the power heads digging holes in the corners of the tank.
